The new temple in the village of Dubovo was built in 1847 by Trevno masters led by the first master Kanyu Draganov from the village of Genchovtsi. His 19-year-old son, who later became a celebrated master builder - Gencho Kanev - Golemiya (1828-1890), took part in the construction. It was consecrated on April 23, 1868, on the feast of St. George, by the first elected Bulgarian bishop, Hilarion Lovchanski. During the Renaissance the clergy of the church in the village of Dubovo took an active part both in the ecclesiastical struggle for an independent Bulgarian Exarchate and in the national liberation struggles against the Turkish rule.
